Did you know that "dog bite claims cost the insurance industry $412 million in 2009, an increase of 6.4 percent according to the Dec. issue of the Insurance Journal. The article further states that dog bites account for more than "one-third of all homeowners insurance liability claims paid out in 2009." Since 2003, the cost of dog bite claims has risen nearly 30 percent. Wow, I didn't realize the cost of claims was so high for dog bites. Of course keeping your pet on a leash helps reduce claims, but some people are unaware that certain breeds may not be covered and/or are excluded on a homeowners policy. If you have questions regarding pet coverage on your homeowners policy, give us a call. We will be happy to go over your policy with you!
