I'm getting so excited to have my kids and other family members come home for the Thanksgiving Holidays! They will be driving down from Dallas and San Antonio, bringing friends and guests over to my house. We normally have about 50 people (adults and kids) over each year for Thanksgiving. But every year I worry about their drive home. Along with the hussle and bussle of everyone trying to get to their destinations for the holidays, there is also the concern of people talking on their cell phones, people trying to settle their kids down while driving in the car. People often fuss over the music on their iphones or MP3 players. All of this leads to careless accidents during the holiday season. According to Fox News, 5,500 people were killed last year by distracted driving and half a million were injured. 30 states have now passed laws dealing with cell phone and electronic device usage while driving to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries. But without local enforcement actually enforcing the laws, there will continue to be fatal prices to pay for our distractions. Please, Please, Please tell your kids to use hands free devices, put their cell phones down, stop texting and driving. They are driving home along with hundreds of other people and we want them to make it home safe. Oh, and make sure they have proper coverage on their auto insurance just in case there's that unfortunate fender bender.
