Traffic Accidents by the Numbers

I read in the Texas Mutual Comp Newsletter (Spring 2014) interesting statistics regarding traffic accidents.  "Transportation-related accidents account for about 40 percent of on-the-job fatalities. (U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics).  Authorities cite distracted driving in nearly 80 percent of traffic accidents (National Traffic Highway Safety Administration NTHSA). Driver fatigue is a factor in about 100,000 crashes each year across the country (NTHSA). Speed is involved in about one out of three fatal crashes. (National Safety Council). And in the U.S., 63 percent of people killed in traffic accidents are not wearing seatbelts (NTHSA).  It's hard for me to believe that in this day and age people still do not understand the severity of not wearing seatbelts, texting and speeding while driving.
